Safe and Cost Effective
The CEW received 4-year funding from Western Economic Diversification in January 2013 to develop a portable gesture-based training tool using tactile controls that could be used in the context of scholastic and/or industry training for welding.
The CEW team have successfully developed manouVR – A system for connecting industrial tools to a virtual environment. manouVR enables early stage skills training in a safe and cost efficient real life setting. The first application of manouVR introduces mig-welding.
manouVR operates on a pc platform and uses consumable hardware including Oculus Rift, Leap Motion and a commercial welding gun. It can be expanded to explore various careers in skilled and non-skilled trades.
